Kim Kardashian receives backlash for new Spotify podcast on prison reform

Since deciding to become a lawyer, Kim Kardashian has been incredibly vocal about prison reform. So far, with the help of her legal team, she's busted countless people out of prison and even filmed a documentary – Kim Kardashian West: The Justice Project – on the whole process.

Well, Kim can now add another job to her ever-growing resume – podcaster. Yep, a Spotify spokesman confirmed that the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star has inked a deal with Spotify for a podcast series all about criminal justice.

Kim will co-host and co-produce the show alongside TV producer Lori Rothschild Ansaldi. This will reportedly include Lori's investigation into the case of Kevin Keith, a man convicted of three murders and sentenced to death in 1994. Keith's death sentence was commuted in 2010 after new evidence was presented by his attorneys.

In 2019, Kim shared Keith's case on Twitter as well as other inmates linked to the Innocence Project, a non-profit organisation that works to exonerate wrongly convicted offenders. The Innocence Project will also be involved with the upcoming podcast.

Whilst it's of course good that Kim is using her platform to bring light to the flawed criminal justice system, some took issue with Kim for accepting the deal. There are many Black people that have dedicated their lives to prison reform, but they don't get the platform or recognition they deserve for their work, yet Kim is able to dip her toe in it and receive all the accolades.

Given the conversations we're having about race right now, people think Kim should have given the opportunity to a Black person.
