The 34 Most Important Pop, EDM & RnB Albums Released In 2017
With new music expected from the likes of Ed Sheeran, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift, 2017 is set to be a MASSIVE year for music! Check out the records you need to get hyped over in the New Year.
-
1. The Chainsmokers - 'Memories: Do Not Open' [7th April 2017]
Drew & Alex pretty much DOMINATED 2016's EDM offerings with their huge anthems 'Closer' and 'Don't Let Me Go'. With 'Paris' quickly becoming one of the biggest tracks of 2017 so far, we were so hyped when the duo let slip to Entertainment Tonight that their debut record would be dropping on 7th April! "We're ready. We've got a full album; it's going to be amazing. It's coming out April 7, was I supposed to say that?"
-
2. Ed Sheeran - '÷' [3rd March 2017]
Last year was a very, VERY quiet year for Mr Sheeran. Our fave ginger (sorry Prince Harry!) went on a year-long hiatus for 2016, but he was spending his time productively... Just hours into 2017 and Ed broke his social media silence to announce that he'd be dropping new music on 6th January 2017! BOTH singles he released, 'Castle On The Hill' and 'Shape Of You' dominated the top 2 spots on the Big Top 40 for a month, so we're expecting his third album to be HUGE when it drops!
-
3. Taylor Swift - Sixth Studio Album [TBC]
Whether it was through mathematical equations or deeply analysing her wardrobe, Swifties across the globe were CONVINCED that Taytay was going to drop a new album in late 2016 - after all, she had not one, but TWO huge break-ups that year. At this rate, it could be mid-to-late 2017 before we hear the follow up to 2014's iconic '1989'. (Pic: PA)
-
4. Calvin Harris - Fifth Studio Album [TBC]
With 'My Way' and 'This Is What You Came For' dominating dance floors for the last few months, you'd be expecting a new full album from Cal very soon, right? Well that might not be the case! The Scottish DJ revealed to The Sun that he is going to focus on streaming services, like Spotify and Apple Music, to have a more constant presence in the charts instead of being restricted to a cycle. But if another record DOES drop, it'll be Calvin's fifth offering and is sure to be EPIC! (Pic: ITV)
-
5. Niall Horan - Debut Studio Album [TBC]
Niall was the first member of One Direction (who didn't leave the band) to release solo material during the group's hiatus (we STILL shudder saying that word out loud...). When he's not playing golf or watching TV with Olly Murs, Niall's been songwriting, and we're predicting a very mellow record, featuring 'This Town', to appear in mid-2017. (Pic: PA)

-
6. Liam Payne - Debut Solo Album [TBC]
Liam's the latest One D star to announce his solo plans. In late 2016 he signed to the same record label as Drake and Ariana Grande. While we're yet to hear his official solo material, there have been some leaked clips floating around on Twitter. We're not 100% sure what his musical style will be, but expect a touch of his "DJ Payno" days to be an influence. If the rumours are true, a new album won't be the only gift LP will be giving to the world - he might even be a daddy! (Pic: Getty)
-
7. Harry Styles - Debut Studio Album [TBC]
Hazza signed with Columbia records back in Summer 2016, but put his solo musical efforts on hold while he made his acting debut. The One D heartthrob, who was crowned the Sexiest Popstar of 2016, appears alongside Tom Hardy in Christopher Nolan's WW2 epic 'Dunkirk'. The movie is released in July, so don't expect any music before the promo cycle for the film is up. #HarryForXmasNo1? (Pic: Getty)
-
8. Cheryl - Fifth Studio Album [TBC]
It's been over two years since Chezza's last album dropped (November 2014), and in that time she's been married, divorced, hooked up with Liam Payne and... is that a baby bump we see?! We were expecting the Geordie princess' new music to come in late 2016, but if there's truth to those pregnancy rumours, we imagine Cheryl'll be spending more time changing nappies than belting out some new pop anthems. Watch this space! (Pic: PA)
-
9. Avicii - Third Studio Album [TBC]
We're not gonna lie, we took Avicii's retirement in 2016 hella hard... Also, we thought 2016 was pretty naff... So to wake up on New Year's Day in 2017 and see that Avicii confirmed his comeback, we lost all chill! "2016 was a rough year for many of us but tonight we get a fresh new start. My new year’s resolution is to make the best damn album of my career #nopressure #greattobeback" (Pic: Instagram)
-
10. Tinie Tempah - 'Youth' [3rd February 2017]
TT's third record is set to drop in February, and with hits 'Girls Like' with Zara Larsson, 'Mamacita' with Wizkid and Big Top 40 chart-toppers 'Not Letting Go' featuring Jess Glynne and KDA's 'Turn The Music Louder' with Katy B, we can't wait to get a bigger taste of Tinie's new sound!
-
-
11. Jason Derulo - Fifth Studio Album [TBC]
After the roaring success of 2015's 'Everything Is Four', JD's fifth studio album is confirmed to be dropping in 2017! In January, he revealed to Billboard that he'd been working on new material in his home, and confirmed that he'd been in contact with Calvin Harris - now there's a collab we NEED to hear!
-
12. Zara Larsson - 'So Good' [17th March]
While she's already had a number 1 album in her native Sweden back in 2014, we're yet to have a full record be released in the UK. With 'Lush Life' and 'Ain't My Fault' proving hugely successful over here, the Swedish pop sensation is sure to achieve a huge chart success when her next album, 'So Good' drops in March (Pic: Getty)
-
13. Jess Glynne - Second Studio Album [TBC]
Since she burst on to the scene lending her vocals to Route 94 and Clean Bandit, Jess Glynne has gone on to become the most successful female singer in Big Top 40 chart history! Her debut album, 'I Cry When I Laugh' was packed with pop anthems, so we're expecting big things from Jess in 2017. If she sticks to a 2-year cycle, expect a new record in Autumn!
-
14. Ellie Goulding - Fourth Studio Album [TBC]
Ellie's third album, 'Delirium' dropped in November 2015, two years after the reissued 'Halcyon Days' album dropped. With 'Still Falling For You' only appearing on the Bridget Jones' Baby soundtrack, and her two-year cycle for album releases, we're CONVINCED Ms Goulding will be back in our lives in late 2017! (Pic: Getty)
-
15. Justin Timberlake - Fifth Studio Album [TBC]
'Can't Stop The Feeling' was pretty much the 'Happy' of 2016, and after getting intimate with him at our Up-Close gig in October, we NEED some more new music from JT! It's been FOUR YEARS since both parts of JT's 'The 20/20 Experience' dropped, and 15 years since his debut offering, 'Justified'. May 26th will also be the twentieth anniversary of *NSYNC's first album... did someone say "reunion"? *crosses fingers* (Pic: Getty)

-
16. Camila Cabello - Debut Studio Album [TBC]
She divided Harmonizers across the world when she split from her Fifth Harmony bandmates at the tail end of 2016, but given her solo success and the body language in practically every 5H performance and interview, it was no surprise that she'd break away from the group that launched her career. CC's registered a solo version of Machine Gun Kelly collab 'Bad Things', and she's been been in the studio with legendary producer Diplo! 2017's gonna be huge for Camila, that's for sure! (Pic: Syco)
-
17. Martin Garrix '+x' [TBC]
STOP TEASING US MARTIN! The no.1 DJ in the world released a song a day for much of October 2016, but there's STILL no sign of a full album from the 'In The Name Of Love' star. 'Animals' was released way back in 2013, and although he's released two EPs in that time, there's been no bonafide record. Chop chop, Garrix!
-
18. Nicki Minaj - Fourth Studio Album [TBC]
December 2014 was the last time we heard NEW solo material from Trinidad's finest - yes, 'Anaconda' REALLY is that old! Her collabs with Ariana Grande and David Guetta have slightly fulfilled our Nicki cravings, but we're eager for her to get back in the studio in 2017! (Pic: PA)
-
19. The Vamps - Third Studio Album [TBC]
Brad, Connor, Tristan & James left it 18 months between their first two albums, which would mean a third record could land at some point in the summer. The band's latest single, 'All Night', has a much more EDM vibe, so we're expecting a totally different sound from #TV3! (Pic: Jordan Curtis Hughes)
-
20. Fifth Harmony - 'H4rmony'? [TBC]
Camila shook the 5H camp in late 2016 when her departure was announced, but the remaining girls have sworn to their Harmonizers they'll continue as a four-piece. Normani, Ally, Dinah Jane & Lauren have already dropped a version of the sassy classic 'That's My Girl' with just their four vocals, and have promised a new album will be dropping this year.
-
-
21. Maroon 5 - Sixth Studio Album [TBC]
Adam & co's 2014 'V' album was a gift to music. With 'Maps', 'Animals' and 'Sugar' all making it on to our mental 'best songs ever' list, we're counting down the days until the US band's sixth record drops. They released Kendrick Lamar collab 'Don't Wanna Know' in late 2016, so an album might not be too far behind. The guys tend to favour summer releases, so keep your eyes and ears open between May and August! (Pic: Getty)
-
22. Sia - 'We Are Your Children' [TBC]
In our eyes, Sia can do no wrong. Whether she's belting out her own hits, lending her vocals to EDM classics with David Guetta, or writing the most perfect songs for the likes of Rihanna, Britney Spears and Cheryl, she's just perfect! 'We Are Your Children' will be Sia's eighth studio offering, but with 'This Is Acting' being re-issued in October 2016, it could be very late 2017, or even 2018, by the time we get a new full album... #SadFace
-
23. Dua Lipa - 'Dua Lipa' [2nd June 2017]
One of the freshest new sounds of 2016, Dua Lipa's debut album is sure to be a pop record you won't want to miss. Dua's 'Blow Your Mind (Mwah)' even became the soundtrack to our sexy new TV ad, and 'Hotter Than Hell' was one of the hottest (see what we did there?) jams of Summer '16! Her first record was due to drop in February, but Dua delayed the album for 4 months because she's a perfectionist.
-
24. Sigala - Debut Studio Album [TBC]
2016 really was Sigala's year - with 5 Big Top 40 chart smashes, including one alongside Craig David, and mind-blowing sets at our Summertime Ball and Monster Mash-Up, the London-born producer has got us SO hyped for his debut album. Expect Sigala to be a big part of the sound of summer 2017! (Pic: PA)
-
25. Rita Ora - Second Studio Album [TBC]
Rita's been chatting about her second studio album, the follow up to 2012's 'Ora', since early 2013... Fast-forward 4 years and we've STILL not heard it! In that time she's released 'I Will Never Let You Down', 'Poison' and 'Body On Me', as well as appearing on Sigma's 'Coming Home' and Charles Hamilton's 'New York Raining'... that's *almost* enough tracks for an album, so drop it in 2017, okay Rita? (Pic: PA)
-
-
26. Selena Gomez - Third Studio Album [TBC]
2016's 'Revival' tour brought out some extra sass in the already fierce Selena, and with her on-again-off-again relationship with Justin Bieber finally coming to a definite end, she's definitely ready to wow us with some new material. A 2-year cycle would put her third release around October time. (Pic: Getty)
-
27. Jonas Blue - Debut Studio Album [TBC]
Guy Robin, aka Jonas Blue, came out of nowhere to provide some of the BIGGEST summer hits of 2016. He's already revealed to us that an album is part of his master plan, so expect summer 2017 to sound fresher than ever!
-
28. Iggy Azalea - 'Digital Distortion' [January 2017]
We were expecting Iggy's second studio offering to drop a LONG time ago, especially as the first single, 'Team', was released way back in March. 'Digital Distortion' is now predicted to drop in January, but there's still no firm release date - however we DO know there's a collaboration with Jess Glynne!
-
29. Miley Cyrus - Sixth Studio Album [TBC]
While she may have dropped 'Miley Cyrus And Her Dead Petz' as a free download after her stint at hosting the MTV EMAs in 2015, it didn't produce any singles, so we're not counting it as a 'proper' Miley album. It's been four years since Ms Cyrus blew our minds with 'Wrecking Ball', so it's time for her to come back and shock us once more! (Pic: PA)
-
30. Clean Bandit - Second Studio Album [TBC]
With violinist Neil Milan leaving the band in October 2016, now would be the perfect time for Clean Bandit to remarket themselves as a trio. Their collaborations with Louisa Johnson and Anne-Marie & Sean Paul were successful in 2016, and we couldn't get enough of their live performances at our Summertime Ball and Monster Mash-Up, so we're hoping for a massive follow up album to 2014's 'New Eyes'.
-
31. Will.i.am - Fourth Studio Album [TBC]
When he's not acting, producing, presenting, judging, being charitable, designing cars and making gadgets, he occasionally likes to make music! Will's last record dropped in 2013, so a new album is LONG overdue - especially after giving us a taste of what he's capable at 2016's Summertime Ball! (Pic: Andy Hughes)
-
32. Anne-Marie - Debut Studio Album [TBC]
Another UK female singer who's lent her vocals to chart favourites, Anne-Marie will no doubt be upping her solo career in 2017 with a debut album. She's previously worked with Rudimental, Wretch 32 and Clean Bandit, and her solo offerings 'Alarm' and 'Breathing Fire' are firm favourites at Capital.
-
33. Bebe Rexha - 'A.Y.F.' [January 2017]
After lending her vocals to the likes of David Guetta and Martin Garrix, the host of the MTV EMAs 2016 is due to drop her debut offering in early 2017. (Pic: PA)
-
34. Major Lazer - 'Music Is The Weapon' [TBC]
Slated for January 2017, 'Music Is The Weapon' is the follow up to 2015's 'Peace Is the Mission' and will include the Vodafone Big Top 40 chart-smash 'Cold Water', which features vocals from Justin Bieber.
