Pile ups close M66 Heywood
Motorists are being advised to find alternative routes following a multi-vehicle collision on the M66.
At about 5.40am on Monday 12 December 2011, police were told that up to 10 cars had collided on the M66 northbound carriageway between junctions one and two near Bury.
The main carriageway is closed northbound at J2 A58 / B6221 (Bury) and traffic heading towards Edenfield is being diverted off and back on at J2.
Police and ambulance crews are at the scene but there are no reports of injuries at this stage.
The situation is not being helped by another crash southbound between J1 A56 (Ramsbottom) and J2 A58 / B6221 (Bury) where a car has hit the central reservation. Police are advising motorists to avoid the M66.
