Openshaw Taxi driver Robbed At Gunpoint

A taxi drivers been robbed at gunpoint in Openshaw as he went to pick someone up.

It happened early this morning, as the 42 year old man went to pick someone up at an address on Cheeryble Street.

When he got there, two men approached him, pointed a gun at him and demanded cash.

They ran away with cash and the driver’s mobile phone. The victim was unhurt. 

The offenders were two white men in their mid 20s. One of them was wearing a grey tracksuit and the other was dressed in dark clothing.

Detective Constable Sarah Wright said: "Thankfully the victim was not hurt, although he has been left badly shaken up.

"This man was simply doing his job when he went to this address, only to find himself the victim of an armed robbery.

"I would urge any witnesses who may have seen the men acting suspiciously, or saw where they went next, to call us."
