Man in Critical Condition After New Year's Day Attack in Bolton

A man is in a critical condition following an Assault in Tonge Moor, Bolton. It happened in the early hours of New Year's Day.

A man is in a critical condition following an Assault in Tonge Moor, Bolton.

At around 3am on 1 January 2012, police were called to a report that a man had been assaulted on Pole Street in Tonge Moor, Bolton.

Officers attended and found a 28-year-old man had been assaulted and was unconscious.

He was taken to hospital for treatment, where he remains in a critical but stable condition with a serious head injury.

Shortly before the incident occurred, the victim had been at a gathering at an address on Eldon Street.

Sometime between 2am and 3am, there was a disturbance outside this address which has resulted in the victim making his way along Eldon Road, via Stone Street and onto Pole Street.

The victim was then assaulted on Pole Street and knocked unconscious.

Inquiries are ongoing.

Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Jackson from Bolton CID said: "We are asking for anyone who may have seen or heard this attack in the early hours of New Years Day morning to come forward and speak to us. We have a team of officers working to establish who is responsible for this assault, which has left a man unconscious in hospital."
