Man Arrested After Woman Attacked In Stockport

A man has been arrested after a woman was sexually assaulted as she walked home in Stockport.

At around 3am on Saturday 3 December 2011, the 28-year-old victim was walking along the footbridge, just off Reservoir Road, Edgeley Road, Edgeley when she was approached by a man from behind.

He grabbed her and strangled her until she passed out.

He sexually assaulted her before stealing her mobile phone.

The phone was later recovered.

The victim suffered a broken nose and severe bruising following the assault.

A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and bailed until 10 January 2012, pending further inquiries.
