A stretch of the southbound side of the M6 had to be closed by armed police, as part of a firearms operation.
Traffic was brought to a standstill at junction 21A at about 4:30pm yesterday (Saturday 19th Jan)
The closure caused delays for motorists.
Five people in the car were detained for searches.
The motorway was reopened a short time later.
