Three men have been arrested after a stabbing in Ashton-Under-Lyne.

Police were called to June Street in Ashton-Under-Lyne just after 6.15pm yesterday to reports that a man had been stabbed.

A man in his 20s had suffered stab wounds and was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

Three men aged 25, 25 and 26 have been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault.

Detective Inspector Alison Whittaker, of GMP's Tameside district, said: "This was a nasty attack on a young man in the street and our thoughts
are very much with him while he recovers in hospital.

"Whilst we have three men in custody I would like to stress that our investigation does not stop here and whilst we are treating this as isolated, we are working hard to piece together the circumstances that led to a man being in hospital and I'd urge anyone with any information to get in touch.

"I also appreciate that members of the community will be concerned and you will see an increased police presence in the area throughout the coming days."
