Emergency services were called to reports of a man having been shot at a house on Ripon Street at about 10.30pm on Tuesday, 23 July.

When officers arrived the 36-year-old victim was being treated by paramedics inside the property and he was then taken to hospital to be treated for gunshot wounds to his leg. The victim's dog was also shot during the incident and as a result died a short time later.

It is believed that the victim was outside the house on Ripon Street when he was approached by two males, wearing balaclavas and gloves. One of the males pulled out a gun and the victim ran into the address. The offender is then believed to have fired a gun through the letterbox of the address injuring the victim and the dog.

House-to-house inquiries are being carried out in the area and officers will also be looking to establish if there is CCTV which could help them identify the offenders, who were last seen running off towards Goodison Road. Crime Scene Investigators are also carrying out forensic examinations at the scene.

DI Paul Speight, said: "The investigation is in its early stages and motive for the attack is currently unknown and detectives are working to establish the full circumstances leading up to the incident.

"I would appeal to anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the incident, or who witnesses anyone acting suspiciously in the area shortly before the attack to come forward. We are also interested in anyone who may have been in the area of Ripon Street and saw two males running towards Goodison Road shortly after 10.30pm. If you were driving and have a dashcam camera please check to see if you have picked anything up on the camera as it may be helpful to our inquiries and could assist us in identifying the offenders."
