Ponies, chins and Speedos. Believe it or not, they're all lyrics that feature in some of our favourite pop songs. Join Capital as we look at some of the silliest lyrics in pop.
'My Humps' was originally intended for the Pussycat Dolls, but released by the Black Eyed Peas in 2005. It achieved chart success around the world, with fans singing along to the lyrics: "What you gon' do with all that junk? All that junk inside that trunk?/I'ma get, get, get, get, you drunk, Get you love drunk off my hump."
In his new song 'Candy', which went to number one on the Vodafone Big Top 40, Robbie successfully rhymed roses with roses. The song's lyrics include: "Ring a ring of roses, whoever gets the closest. She comes and she goes, as the war of the roses."
On an as yet confirmed song from her new album 'Unapologetic', Rihanna unveils a new found fascination for ponies. She sings: "If you want it, let's do it. Ride it, my pony. My saddle, it's waiting. I'm coming, jump on it. You want it? Let's do it. Ride it. My pony. My saddle is waiting, I'm coming - jump on it." Well do you? The album is is released on 19th November.
Another as yet unreleased song, 'Kiss Kiss' features on One Direction's new album 'Take Me Home' and probably accurately features the lyrics: "I just want to show you off to all of my friends, make them drool on their chiny, chin, chins." The album is released on 12th November.
"Do you ever feel like a plastic bag?" Well, do you? That's the question Katy Perry asked her fans on her 2011 single 'Firework', which went on to become one of her biggest hits.
Shakira's 2001 single proved a massive hit for the South American singer but has since become well known for its strange lyrical content that includes the line, "Lucky that my breasts are small and humble, so you don't confuse them with mountains." We're not sure how many fans were confused about the issue in question, but they were definitely left confused as to where this strange lyric came from.
It seems K-Pop star PSY is a big fan of the humble coffee bean and is looking for a girl who appreciates the same, finer things in life that he does. The 2012 pop sensation made the revelation in his breakthrough hit 'Gangnam Style' with the lyric: "A girl who is warm and humane during the day, a classy girl who knows how to enjoy the freedom of a cup of coffee."
Nicki's massive chart hit 'Starships' was full of energy and excitement as the US rapper urged fans to "Jump in my hoopty hoopty hoop", before also warning them that she "owns that". While fans are still unsure exactly what Nicki's "hoopty hoop" is, it doesn't seem to matter and "Starships' remains one of Nicki's biggest crowd pleasers.
"Hard like Geometry, and Trigonometry. This is crazy. Psychology". This is just a sample of the undoubtedly "out there" lyrical terminology the Black Eyed Peas frontman raps out on his 2011 hit 'T.H.E (The Hardest Ever)'. While the meaning isn't quite clear, what is clear is Will.i.am's uncanny ability to make ANYTHING rhyme and sound great when he wants it to.
"Swagger jagger, swagger jagger, You should get some of your own". Fans were left scrambling to get some of their own 'Swagger Jagger' when Cher arrived with her debut single last year, before realising they weren't entirely sure what 'Swagger Jagger' actually is. But according to Cher, she's got bucketloads.
The genius of Flo Rida may be more in his club ready tunes than his highbrow lyrical content, but the US rapper still had fans raising confused eyebrows with some of the lines from his recent hit single 'Whistle', which included lyrics like: "I'm betting you like people, and I'm betting you love freak mode". A Google search for "freak mode" leaves us none the wiser.
Sam and the Womp came out of the left field this summer with their crossover hit 'Bom Bom' getting people dancing up and down the country. The song was an immediate dancefloor hit but that hasn't stopped lyrics like: "I'm the cat with bass and drum, going 'round like bom bom bom!" leaving many scratching their heads. And hands up if you have figured out what "womping" actually is?
'One Time' was released as Justin's debut single back in 2009 but despite being the star's first ever single release, back when he was just 15, it's still hard to swallow some of the gooey lyrics of the song like: "When I met you girl my heard went knock knock, now them butterflies in my stomach won't stop stop".
LMFAO love a good party and their single 'Sexy And I Know It' is perfect evidence of the band's fun-filled nature and love of the dancefloor. Despite the song being a huge hit across the world, there's no denying it has some of the silliest lyrics in music when you hear Redfoo and SkyBlu rapping out gems like: "And when I'm at the beach, I'm in a Speedo trying to tan my cheeks".
Usher has produced countless hits over the years, with everything from heartfelt R&B ballads to pounding club anthems. The US star's recent hit 'Scream' gave Usher yet another rousing track to get everyone up and dancing and featured the curious line: "I'll have you like Ooh baby baby ooh baby baby, Ah-ooh baby baby ooh baby baby".
