Police in Leicester looking for witnesses.
Detectives investigating a serious sexual assault on a schoolgirl are appealing for public help to trace potential witnesses.
The incident took place sometime between 6pm and 6.45pm on Monday September 17 in the Collins Close area of Thorpe Astley.
The victim, a 12-year-old girl, was subjected to a serious sexual assault by a person known to her.
A 14-year-old boy has been charged and remanded in custody in connection with the incident and will appear before Leicester Youth Court later this month.
Officers have been carrying out extensive enquiries since the incident was reported and believe there were a number of cyclists and pedestrians using the footpath which runs alongside Lubbesthorpe Way and also the underpass which runs under Lubbesthorpe Way.
Detective Constable James Cavendish is investigating the incident, he said: This was a deeply distressing and traumatic incident for the victim, she is receiving support from specialist officers within Leicestershire Police and partner agencies. From enquiries we've carried out we would appeal to anyone who used the footpath which connects Thorpe Astley with the bridge between Columbine Close and Kingsway North around the time of the incident on Monday September 17 to contact us.
We would also like to speak to anyone who used the underpass connecting Thorpe Astley and Kingsway North between 6pm and 6.45pm. Even if you believe you didn?t see anything significant we would still urge you to contact us.
