Derbyshire police and fire are the first in the country to have a joint headquarters.
Capital's been told there will actually be more police officers on the streets of Derbyshire when the force and Fire Service share their HQ.
Contracts have been singed and work will start on the site in Ripley in a month.
Fire and police staff in similar departments will be working next to each other in the new building.
Officials say employees will be able to share best practice and have access to each other's expertise.
Derbyshire's Police and Crime Commissioner, Alan Charles, has told Capital this is a UK first:
'This is very innovative, not just for Derbyshire but for the whole country as well.
'I think this is the first time the police service and fire service have come together to build a headquarters of this magnitude.'
