35 year old due in court accused of child abduction and dangerous driving.

A man will appear in court accused of abducting a young baby from his mother's home and driving dangerously with the tot on board during a police pursuit.

James Dempsey is due to appear at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Saturday charged with child abduction, failing to stop for police, dangerous driving, aggravated vehicle taking, theft and motoring offences.

It is alleged the 35-year-old, from Eden Road in Solihull, took the five-month-old boy from his mother's home in Sutton Coldfield on Wednesday morning, West Midlands Police said.

The force issued an appeal to help trace the tot and following information from the public the boy was found unharmed in a car that was stopped by traffic officers near Birmingham Airport on Thursday evening.

Dempsey, who is known to the baby's mother, was charged on Friday night.
