A bystander who was attacked following a fight outside a pub in the Black Country has died in hospital.

Detectives are gathering CCTV footage after the 31-year-old victim was found with severe head injuries in Willenhall in the early hours of Monday.

Officers were called to reports of a fight outside The Malthouse pub on New Road shortly after midnight.

The injured man had been in a critical conditon and died on Monday afternoon, police said.

Detective Inspector Justin Spanner, of West Midlands Police, said: "We understand there was a fight that ended with a bystander being attacked - and shockingly he passed away at hospital a matter of hours later alongside family members.

"At this time no arrests have been made, but our officers have worked through the night to secure CCTV, witness accounts and vital evidence from the scene.

"If anyone was in New Road at the time and witnessed the attack, or has any information that could help our enquiry, then please call the Homicide Team on 101."
