Capital Breakfast with Jordan North, Chris Stark and Sian Welby 6am - 10am
We're sure that writing songs for the first time would be daunting at the best of times, but when you've recently been watched by millions on the X Factor, and those same people are now expecting a hit album from you, then the pressure is really on.
That's the situation 2009 X Factor runner-up Olly Murs found himself in earlier this year. And ahead of the release of his debut album, he admitted he's never before attempted to write music.
"They put me together with some writers" he revealed. "They gave me a pen and paper to sit down and write some ideas... and some structures and melodies... I didn't even know I could write songs".
You can hear Olly's debut single Please Don't Let Me Go on 95.8 Capital FM, and the video is available to watch at Capital FM online. If you like the song, like we do, then Olly is no quick to claim the credit for it.
"I did genuinely write the songs, I've signed a publishing deal and everything. I think the perception of X Factor acts is that we're puppets who get up there and sing songs".
Olly dropped by Capital FM recently to chat with showbiz reporter Kevin Hughes about life, love and music. Listen again to the interview right here:
Olly's as-yet-untitled debut album is expected to be released in November 2010.
