Lewis Capaldi hit back after he was criticised for encouraging alcoholism at The BRITs.

Lewis Capaldi took home two of the biggest accolades at The BRITs 2020, but he’s received criticism for ‘promoting an unhealthy relationship with alcohol’ during his acceptance speeches, as he carried a bottle of Buckfast up on stage with him.

A viewer shared a snap of his winning moment, alongside the caption: “We have an unhealthy relationship with alcohol in Scotland. This doesn’t help.”

Lewis replied to the tweet.

The ‘Someone You Loved’ singer replied: “Imagine having a drink on my first night off in months after winning two Brit Awards, can you believe it?!”

The singer was not impressed with the comment.

Lewis looked like he had the time of his life at the ceremony and ended up partying into the night on a boat with his good pal Niall Horan.

His speech for Song Of The Year was nothing short of hilarious and will surely go down in history.

He said: “My name's Lewis, thanks very much.

"Contrary to popular belief, a lot of people think this song is about my ex-girlfriend who you can now see every night on Love Island... but it's actually about my grandmother who sadly passed away a couple of years ago and I hope to God ITV don't contact her to be on an ITV dating reality show."

Lewis also won Best New Artist and gave an emotional performance of his smash hit ‘Someone You Loved’ following host Jack Whitehall’s touching tribute to Caroline Flack.

Jack said: "I just wanted to add that over the weekend we learned the awful news that a member of the BRITs family our friend, Caroline Flack, tragically passed away."

"She was a kind and vibrant person with an infectious sense of fun. She will be sorely missed. I'm sure I speak for everyone here when I say our thoughts are with her friends and family."
