The '99 Problems' star is quizzed on who he is by the passenger before he performed in Brooklyn.
Jay-Z can be seen getting questioned about who he is by an elderly passenger on the New York subway as he headed to a show in Brooklyn.
The 'Otis' rapper caused chaos as he rode the public transport link to his final gig at the newly opened Barclays Center back in October and sat beside the old lady on the train.
She turns to him and asks: "Are you famous?"
He responds: "Not very famous, you don't know me. But I'll get there someday"
The pair enjoy a brief conversation following a formal introduction and the rapper informs the lady, Ellen, that he is on his way to a show.
She commends the US star for taking public transport saying she was "proud" of him before realising who he is.
"Oh, you're Jay-Z! I know about Jay-Z," she states, before the pair erupt into laughter.
The footage is taken from a new 'Where I'm From' documentary, which charts the journey Jay took to open the venue.

Meanwhile, Jay will be back at the venue on New Year's Eve for a co-headline show with Coldplay.
He has also been spotted in the studio with wife Beyonce as she continues work on her new album.
It has also been reported that the Destiny's Child singer has been working with Justin Timberlake on new material ahead of her Super Bowl halftime show appearance.
