The 'Lego House' singer was said to be stuck in a "super awkward" moment at the awards show.

Ed Sheeran has reportedly been playing "Switzerland" between close friends Taylor Swift and Harry Styles and helped keep them apart at the MTV Video Music Awards 2013.

The '22' singer made headlines over the weekend when she thanked the "person who inspired the song" while picking up her gong for 'I Knew You Were Trouble', leading many to assume the comment was a dig towards ex-boyfriend Harry Styles.

The pair were later pictured together with friends at a VMAs after party with fresh rumours saying it was "super awkward" between them during the chance encounter.

"Ed [Sheeran] made sure to keep them separate," a source told Us Weekly this week after the VMAs.

The couple dated up until January this year and Harry has since told reporters he can "take a joke" after being questioned about Taylor's comments.

Despite Harry being OK with Taylor's comments, his One Direction bandmate Liam Payne has since said he felt her comments were "not needed".
