Christmas Number 1 2008 - Alexandra Burke

Following her X Factor win, Alexandra got her first UK No. 1, just in time for Christmas.

'Hallelujah' was written for Leonard Cohen's 1984 album but was made famous by Jeff Buckley. It's been covered numerous times and has recently popped up as backing music on a number of TV programmes which is why it was already familiar to many by the time Alexandra came round to cover it.

During the race to Christmas No. 1, Buckley fans started a campaign to get Buckley's version to No. 1.  It failed to beat the power of Simon Cowell and the X Factor and ended up at No. 2.

'Hallelujah' became the first song in 51 years to occupy the top two chart positions.
