The British star's music dominated the American charts ahead of Lady Gaga.
Adele secured the top-selling album and track of the year in the US in 2011.
New figures released reveal that the London singer's second album '21' sold 5.8million copies, making it the biggest-selling in the US since 'Confessions' by Usher seven years ago.
'21' has remained in the US Billboard album chart's top ten since it was released in March last year.
'Rolling In The Deep' also sold 5.8million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Other artists whose records sold well in 2011 included Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' and 'Tha Carter IV' by Lil' Wayne.
Meanwhile, Adele has been spotted with an apparent new boyfriend on holiday in America.
