Two prison guards at Full Sutton Jail in York have been held hostage in an attack inspired by the Woolwich soldier murder.

Police have confirmed that three prisoners were involved in an attack which lasted more than four hours.

It's reported that an officer was kidnapped and beaten in a plot inspired by the Woolwich terror attack.

Reports in today's Sun and Mirror newspapers suggest one of the guards was held hostage and beaten by radical Muslim converts.

It's understood prison staff intervened and a female guard was hurt.

A Prison Service Spokesperson said:
"An incident involving three prisoners took place at HMP Full Sutton on 26th May from 4.25pm and was successfully resolved at 8.40pm after staff intervened.

A police investigation is ongoing."
