Police have arrested two people in connection with the death of a York teenager.

The 16-year-old girl died in hospital in the early hours of this morning after paramedics were called to house in Tang Hall Lane, York, last night.

The girl was rushed to York District Hospital in an ambulance at around 11.30pm, but later died.

A 21-year-old man is in a “serious but stable condition” at the same hospital after being taken in by a friend at around midnight in a related incident, police said.

A 23-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, both from York, have been arrested in connection with the investigation, a police spokesman said.

North Yorkshire Police say the yellow/white paste found in this investigation is undergoing tests to find out what's inside it, although amphetamine is believed to be involved.

Until this is confirmed, people are strongly urged not to risk taking substances matching this description or of a similar nature.

Police said "One girl has already died and a young man is in a serious but stable condition at hospital, so the potential dangers are very real."
