Thurnscoe Man Sentenced For Manslaughter

Barnsley man Gary McKeown pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Philip Alan Smith at Sheffield Crown Court.

Philip was found injured in Church Street in Thurnscoe around 4.30pm on Saturday 28 January. Police say there had been a disturbance near the junction with Houghton Road. Philip died from stab injuries.

Detective Chief Inspector Tom Whiteley said: “This case resulted from problems in a close-knit community. There was a confrontation which escalated leading to a violent incident where Philip Smith suffered multiple stab wounds.

“I would like to thank the community for their support in coming forward to help with the investigation.”
