The funeral of a church organist who was beaten to death on his way to Christmas Eve Midnight Mass is due to take place in Sheffield.

The service for Alan Greaves, who was 68, will start at St Saviour's Church in High Green at noon.

It will also be shown on a big screen at a neighbouring church due to the large number of mourners expected.

Mr Greaves died after suffering head injuries on Greengate Lane close to his home at around 11.10pm on December 24.

Funeral organisers say road closures will be in place between 10am to 2pm.

The service will be relayed to a large screen at St Mary's Roman Catholic Church, which is about 100 metres up the road from St Saviour's.

Two men have appeared in court over Mr Greaves' murder and two more remain on bail in connection with his death.
