Policeman Remanded On Sex Charges

A Nottinghamshire police inspector accused of having sex with a 13-year-old girl has been remanded in custody.

Inspector Russell Dew is accused of two counts of sexually touching the girl.

The more serious count alleges he had sex with the teenager, Sheffield Magistrates' Court heard.

Each count relates to alleged offences which took place between May 1 and July 31 last year in the Newark area.

Dew, 44, appeared in the dock for a 45-minute hearing, flanked by two security guards.

Sporting short, greying hair, he sat listening to the proceedings wearing blue tracksuit trousers and a blue T-shirt.

His solicitor, Sarah Staniland, made an application for bail but this was refused by District Judge Tony Browne.

Dew, who was based at Mansfield police station but is now suspended from duty, was arrested on Thursday.

He was remanded in custody by the district judge and told he will appear again at Sheffield Crown Court on August 8.
