It happened in Bawtry as he walked with his girlfriend near the Penny Farthing Pub on Station Road.

The 35-year-old was walking along station road at shortly before 1am when a man approached him and assaulted him in an apparently unprovoked attack before running off.

He's now being treated at Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield.

Detectives are looking for a man, thought to be in his late 20s or early 30s, of stocky build and with short, blonde hair.

Anyone with information's asked to contact police.
