Labour MP Charged After Pudsey MP Assault Claims

A Labour MP has been suspended from his party and charged by police after allegations he head-butted and punched the Tory MP for Pudsey in a House of Commons bar.

Police say they detained a man in his 50s after being told about the fight at parliament last night.

He has since been charged.

51 year old Eric Joyce, has been suspended fromt he party until the police investigation is complete, the Labour Party said.

Stuart Andrew, the Conservative MP for Pudsey in West Yorkshire, has alleged that he was assaulted.

It’s supposed to have taken place in the Strangers Bar, which is reserved for MPs and their guests.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “We were called at approximately 10.50pm last night to reports of a disturbance at a bar within the House of Commons.

“A man aged in his 50s was arrested by officers on suspicion of assault. He remains in custody in a central London police station. Inquiries are continuing.”
