Jail Van Overturns Near Tadcaster

Three inmates have been injured after the prison van they were being transported in overturned near Tadcaster.

9 prisoners were in the vehicle as it transferred them from Hull prison, three were taken to York District Hospital for treatment for 'non-life threatening' injuries, 6 were unhurt and returned to jail.

North Yorkshire Police said they were called to the incident on the westbound carriageway of the A64 near Tadcaster at about 5pm yesterday.

The occupants of the other vehicles involved were unhurt.

The road was closed for a number of hours while investigations were carried out.
