Family Tribute To Thurnscoe Stab Victim

The family of a man stabbed to death after a row in Thurnscoe have paid tribute to him.

36-year-old Philip Alan Smith was found stabbed in the village of Thurnscoe, between Doncaster and Barnsley, at about 4.30pm on Saturday.

Officers found Mr Smith, of Stotfold Drive, Thurnscoe, on Church Street, near the junction with Houghton Road, and he was taken to Barnsley District General Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

A post mortem found he had been stabbed.

A family spokesperson has given the following statement:

"The tragic event of Saturday 28th January 2012, where Philip was fatally stabbed, has left a huge gap in the lives of many people. Philip was a much loved member of a large family and we will never forget him.

"We have heard many rumours about what happened. We would ask that if anyone has any information about the incident to contact South Yorkshire Police as soon as possible so that justice can be done.

"We finally ask that our privacy is respected so that we can grieve in private

One man was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

Three other men arrested on suspicion of violent disorder have been released on bail pending further inquiries.
