Body Is Missing York Man

Police confirm a body that was found in the River Ouse in York is that of missing man Christopher Baker.

Police were called to a spot near the Millennium Bridge at 3:15pm yesterday afternoon (Saturday 19th Jan) after reports from a member of the public that they'd seen a body in the river.

29-year-old Christopher Baker from York has been missing since he was last seen climbing over Skelderate Bridge in York on the 20th December 2012.

Inspector Mark Henderson of York Police said:
"Sadly the search for Chris has ended with very distressing news for his loved ones.

Our thoughts are very much with his family, friends and colleagues as they try to come to terms with his death at this very sad and traumatic time.

We now ask that his family's privacy is respected and they are allowed to grieve in peace."

Police do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding Chris' death.

North Yorkshire Police would like to thank members of the public and the media for their support with the appeals to help locate Chris.
