Four people have been injured in a crash on the A1 in West Yorkshire which has closed the part of road around junction 44.

The collision happened a mile north of junction 44 at around 6.20am today.

A lorry travelling on the southbound carriageway overturned when it swerved to avoid some debris in the road. It then collided with the central reservation and shed its load of cardboard across both carriageways.

West Yorkshire Police say as a result of the collision, a Jaguar and a Ford Focus were also involved.

Four men have been taken to hospitals in the local area.

The driver of the Ford Focus sustained serious but non life-threatening injuries while the remaining three men suffered minor injuries.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact the Southern Roads Policing Unit on the non-emergency number, 101.
