Sheffield Half Marathon Cancelled

The Sheffield half marathon's been cancelled at the last minute because of a problem with a water delivery.

Organisers have apologised to everyone involved in the race and say the decision's been taken with "huge disappointment and regret".

5,000 runners were due to take part in the 13.1 mile event - many raising money for good causes.

It's reported a significant number of runners decided to take on the route despite the lack of water - with police originally setting up road blocks to prevent it, and later deciding it would be safer to let them carry on.

On the official Sheffield Half Marathon Twitter page, the following announcement was made shortly after 10:30am

Several people on Twitter responded angrily to the news.

@sjsno tweeted 'What a disgrace' while the user @MushatHPR said 'Farcical. Planning and communications a shambles. Folk are rightly angry and deserve more than an apology.'
