Police are looking for this man

British Transport Police are investigating a case of racial abuse at Cardiff Central station.

Shortly before 7.30pm on Monday 8 May the two victims – a 32-year-old woman and her five-year-old son – boarded an Arriva Trains Wales service at Cadoxton heading towards Cardiff.

As they arrived into Cardiff Central, the mother spoke to her son in her mother tongue and they walked towards the station exit. At this point, a man began to shout racial abuse towards the mother and boy.

The man continued to abuse the mother and boy until they were outside the station. He was stood close to the woman shouting at her. Fearful that his mother was about to be assaulted, the young boy stood between his mother and the man and asked him to leave him and his mother alone.

Investigating officer PC Liam Perry, said:

“This man’s behaviour was totally unacceptable and utterly absurd. His claims and threatening behaviour was deeply upsetting to both victims and we are working hard to identify the man responsible.

“If you know the man in the CCTV images then I would urge you to get in touch as soon as possible. Your information could prove vital in our enquiries.

“I would like to commend the five-year-old for his incredible bravery in standing up to this bully. Let us be very clear, hate crime will simply never be tolerated and we will work tirelessly to identify offenders and bring them before the courts.”
