Guard Of Honour For Sgt Louise Lucas

Hundreds of people have gathered in "pink and bling" for the funeral of Sergeant Louise Lucas.

The Cardiff Police Officer was killed after being hit by a bus in Swansea last month.

Around 200 policemen and women lined the road leading to Christ Church in Cardiff  on Friday afternoon in a Guard of Honour, for a woman who’s smile could “light up any room”.

The cortege was lead by four police motorbikes and two mounted police.

Sgt Lucas’ coffin was draped in the South Wales force’s flag, topped with flowers and her police hat and was lead into the church to Bette Midler’s “Wind Beneath My Wings”.

Reverand Dr Trystan Owain Hughes led the service at the Cyncoed church, where the mum-of-three and her family were members:

“We know like you, the joy and love Louise brought to others.

“And now many of us are feeling that there’s a hole has left in our lives where Louise’s smile, Louise’s laughter, used to brighten up our day.”

The service included tributes from South Wales Police’s Chief Constable Peter Vaughan and Supt. Alun Morgan, who asked mourners to remember the last time Sgt Lucas made them smile, because that was when she was at her “mischievous best”.

Louise's husband Gavin was the last of friends and family to speak after her brother Rob described her as "a light that will never go out in our hearts".

He read out a poem that he'd written especially for their wedding day.

After the service the cortege stopped outside Llanishen police station - where Sgt Lucas served as a much loved community officer.
