Final Goodbyes To Brecon Crash Teen

Hundreds have gathered in Barry to say their goodbyes to teenager Corey Price, who was killed in a car crash on a dangerous road in the Brecon Beacons.

The 17-year-old, his friends Rhodri Miller and Alesha O’Connor and 68-year-old Margaret Challis from Merthyr all died as a result of the collision on the A470 earlier this month.

A white and blue coffin, topped with Astro Turf, a football shirt and boots was carried into St Mary’s Church to Sam Smith’s “Lay Me Down”.

“Goodnight and God Bless my sunshine” were the final words from Corey’s dad Lee:

“God has blown the final whistle...

“...I would like to say to you, Corey Bailey Price, you could have chosen anyone, but you chose me to be your dad.

“And for that, I am eternally grateful”.

Other speakers included the dad of Corey’s friend Luke and his former head teacher at Ysgol Bro Morgannwg, Dylan Jones.

The funeral heard how the 17-year-old loved Nandos and Nutella, but didn’t like doing the dishes.

Father Ben Andrews, who lead the service, said the tragic deaths of the three teens were like a “black-out”:

“We have been plunged into darkness, everything has changed and nothing will be the same ever again.

“The world has been turned upside down and nothing can ever prepare us for something like this.

"We should not as a community have had to say goodbye to these young people and I only wish I had the answer why.”

Cyndi Lauper's "True Colours" accompanied the teenager out of St Mary's as the pallbearers struggled to hold back the tears.

Police are investigating how Corey, Rhodri, Alesha and 68-year-old Margaret Challis died.

An inquest into their deaths has been opened and adjourned to a later date and 7 teenagers have been released on bail.
