Woman Seriously Hurt In M3 Crash

Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious injury collision on the northbound carriageway of the M3 between Winchester and Basingstoke on Saturday (Feb 11).

The collision happened shortly before 11.30am between junction 9 and 8 when the rear tyre of a silver Renault Megane suddenly deflated and the driver lost control.

The vehicle left the carriageway where it rolled several times coming to a rest on its wheels in a ditch.

The driver, a 31-year-old woman from Eastleigh, received life threatening head injuries and was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital, where she remains in a critical but stable condition.

Junction 9 to 8 of the M3 was closed until 4pm while collision investigators examined the scene and arranged recovery for the vehicle.
Police are now appealing for any witnesses to the crash, or anyone who saw the car prior to it, to come forward.

Anyone with information should call Sergeant Rob Heard at the Road Death Investigation Team at Eastleigh on 101, quoting Operation Yeoman.
