Woman Found Screaming In Southsea Street

Detectives are trying to find out who attacked a woman in a street in Southsea.

An off-duty police officer went to help a woman screaming in the street near the junction of Elm Grove and Pelham Road shortly before 6.40pm on Friday 3 January 2014.

The woman had cuts and bruises and informed police that she had been assaulted. Her injuries are not life-threatening.

Officers are providing support for the woman's welfare as enquiries continue to establish exactly how and when she was assaulted..

Police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen a woman, aged in her 40s, walking in distress in Elm Grove or Pelham Road between 6pm and 6.40pm on Friday evening - or anyone else who may have seemed suspicious nearby around the same
time.
