20 January 2015, 11:17

Police have sealed off a park in the middle of Southampton, as they investigate a serious sexual assault.

The victim, a 20-year-old woman, has reported that she was assaulted on Houndwell Park near Debenhams between 2am and 3.30am this morning (Tuesday 20 January).

Hampshire Police say she is currently being supported by specialist officers.

Police would like to reassure members of the community that this is not a stranger attack and those involved are known to one another. This is being treated as an isolated incident.

Officers are still at the scene, where the park and its children's play area remain cordoned off while investigations continue.

A 25-year-old man from Brighton has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently being questioned by police.
