Teenager Sexually Assaulted On Isle Of Wight

Detectives are releasing CCTV images of a man they're looking for after a sexual assault was reported in Newport on the Isle of Wight.

A 19-year-old woman from the Isle of Wight told police she was assaulted in Church Litten park near Lord Louis Library in the town centre.

The sexual assault is believed to have taken place sometime between 2am and 3am on the morning of Thursday, October 6, 2011.

Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Will Burns of Isle of Wight CID said:  “The 19-year-old woman was not injured, but is clearly upset and shaken. She has been able to tell officers about the circumstances surrounding how she was sexually
assaulted by a man she had met earlier the same evening inside Yates’s bar on the High Street. After the assault, he stole the woman’s handbag, which was found and recovered by police a short time later.

“CID is continuing to pursue several leads and I would like to thank Yates’s, local residents, businesses, and our partner agencies for all their assistance over the past week.

“We’ve identified CCTV images from Yates’s bar of a man we believe has information that’s important to the investigation.. He was seen walking out of Yates’s bar at around 2am on the morning of Thursday, October 6, 2011.

“This man or anyone who recognises him is asked to contact Isle of Wight CID at Newport Police Station.”

The man was described as:

 > White

> Aged in his early 20s

> Approximately 5 ft 7 ins tall

> Short dark hair

> Large nose

He was wearing a jumper over his shoulders, black T-shirt and blue jeans.

The man spoke with an accent from the north of England.
