Police in Southampton are looking for three people who attacked a student on New Year's Day.

At about 5.30am on 1 January, the 23-year-old man was walking home in Quayside Road in Bitterne when he was stopped by three youths who demanded his possessions. When he refused, he was attacked.

The victim, who is a student, believes he was punched in the face and hit in the back of the head with a bottle.  He fled the scene, running to a friend’s house in Stewart Road.

The friend called an ambulance, and the student was taken to Southampton General Hospital, where he was treated for cut lips, a head wound, a grazed hip and sore ribs. He was discharged after treatment. The would-be robbers failed to get any property.

The victim describes one of the attacking group as a white youth, aged about 18, who is 5ft 6ins tall and slim.  He spoke with a local accent and wore dark clothing and a black woolly hat with an Adidas logo.

Police would like to speak to this youth or anyone who witnessed the incident. They also would like to view any private CCTV which may have captured the attack.
