Southampton Police Looking For Car Couple

Police are trying to trace a couple in a car who helped an assault victim in Newtown Road, Southampton.

Sometime around 1am on Saturday, March 10, a 28-year-old woman was walking home on her own when she was passed several times by the same car. She became worried and started to run off.

The car then pulled up beside her and the driver got out and grabbed hold of her in a tight bear hug. However she managed to fight him off, scratching his face and he ran off back to his car and drove off at speed.

The man is described as white, 6ft tall, proportionate build, with a shaven head but not bald. He wore a light blue polo shirt with the collar up.

The vehicle was described as a dark coloured sporty looking car, possibly a Vauxhall Astra.

The victim was left very distressed and managed to speak to a couple in a Ford Focus type vehicle. They gave her a lift back to her home.
Officers are now trying to trace the couple who helped the victim as they are likely to be important witnesses.

The couple or anyone else with information about this crime is asked to call Detective Constable Dave Brunsden at the Western Area CID team at Southampton Central Police Station on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
