Sisters Badly Hurt In A3 Crash Near Petersfield

Two sisters have been seriously injured in a crash on the A3 in Hampshire - one's in a critical condition.

At 9.25am today, (Monday 13) a heavy goods vehicle collided with a stationary Peugeot 206 that had broken down on the A3 southbound carriageway, at Buriton near Petersfield.

On impact the black Peugeot collided with the barrier and caught fire. The two female occupants were rescued by a female police officer and two members of the public.

A third female occupant of the car, had already got out and was seeking help for the break down, before the lorry collided with the vehicle.

The car driver, a 21-year-old woman has suffered life threatening injuries and her 19-year-old sister, who was a front seat passenger, has serious injuries; both were airlifted to Southampton General Hosptial. The third female, was treated for shock at the scene.

The driver of the HGV, a 33-year-old man from Bulgaria, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving without due care and attention.

Police are appealing for anyone with information or who witnessed the collision, to contact Sargeant Wayne Voller at Fratton Roads Policing Unit on 101 quoting Operation FORGARTY.
