A couple from Romsey have had their entire house, including the loft, ransacked by burglars.

Hampshire Police say thousands of pounds worth of cash and Chinese jewellery was taken from their home in The Covert last month.

At about 5pm and Wednesday 30 October, a couple left their home in The Covert, Romsey. When they returned at about 10.15pm, they discovered a break-in and a scene of chaos.

The intruders had disabled a burglar alarm and broken in through rear conservatory doors. The whole house, including the loft, had been subjected to an untidy search. The contents of cupboards, the fridge and freezer were dumped on the floor.

Missing were thousands of pounds worth of jade, gold and diamond jewellery. Also gone was a large quantity of Canadian, Hong Kong, New Zealand and US dollars and Kruggerands. Spirits and a damaged remote control helicopter toy also were taken.

Police are appealing for anyone with information about the burglary to get in touch. They also would like to hear from anyone who has been asked to buy jade jewellery or to exchange the foreign currency.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Staff Investigator Joanne Moger at Eastleigh CID on 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers charity line on 0800 555 111.
