Portsmouth FC Relegated

Portsmouth Football Club have been relegated to League Two - the fourth division of English football.

It's happened without them even playing a league game themselves, but fellow strugglers Oldham beat Yeovil 1-0 on Tuesday night. That means Pompey are 8 points adrift in the relegation zone of the League One table, with only a maximum 6 points available from their last two games of the season.

It's only five years after they won the FA Cup and just three since they were playing in the Premier League.

7,000 Pompey fans were at Fratton Park at the time, for a fund-raising friendly game for the club.

Manager Guy Whittingham and a number of former players took to the pitch alongside members of the first team, for the match against ex-defender Hermann Hreidarsson’s Icelandic side IBV.

It was to make money for the new owners, the Pompey Supporters Trust.
