Last month we told you about a really loud explosion on the South Coast, with loads of listeners getting in touch to ask us what it was.
Members of the public contacted police at around 10.30pm expressing their concerns after hearing the loud explosion.
The bang was heard in the Fleming Park area of Eastleigh on Monday, February 14. At the time Facebook and Twitter were full of rumours of a bomb or gas leak.
Officers in have now arrested and cautioned a man in connection with the explosion. With help and information from members of the local community, an address in Kingfisher’s Road was identified where it was believed the explosion had taken place.
Officers executed a search warrant at the address and fireworks paraphernalia were seized from the property.
A 40-year-old man was arrested on Sunday, March 13 on suspicion of causing the explosion and was questioned by officers. He admitted setting off a large firework, similar to those used for public fireworks displays, and has received an official police
caution for causing harassment, alarm or distress to others.
Sergeant Paul Southam, from Eastleigh Central Safer Neighbourhoods team, said: "This incident was particularly frightening for residents living in the Fleming Park and wider Eastleigh area and local officers were keen to do all they could to find out what
or who had caused such a loud explosion.
“Thanks to the hard work of local officers and the cooperation of members of our local community, we have been able to establish the cause and take appropriate action against the individual responsible.”
