Passengers can now travel in style to join cruise ships docked in Southampton, with a new ‘platform to cabin’ rail service.
A new luxury train will take them straight into the cruise terminal and their luggage will be taken on board for them too.
The new service, operated by Cruise Saver Travel, will see fifteen cruise trains call at the port this year, the first of which was marked with a naming ceremony on the platform at Southampton’s Mayflower Terminal. The train will bring passengers from Scotland, Newcastle, Leeds and Birmingham. From the moment the passengers board the train their luggage will be checked in, and on arriving at the Port of Southampton it will be delivered direct to their accommodation on the cruise ship.
Doug Morrison, ABP Port Director Southampton, said:
“We are delighted to support the initiative taken by Cruise Saver Travel to offer a travel package incorporating a direct train service into the Port for their cruise passengers from across the country. With passenger numbers through Southampton forecast to grow to 1.4 million in 2011 the travel option offered by Cruise Saver Travel not only enhances the customer experience through our cruise terminals but it also reduces the reliance on road transport”.
