Police in the New Forest are warning young women and girls to be vigilant after a 13-year-old girl was approached by a stranger in a car while she was walking home from school.
It happened on June 9.
The girl was walking along Long Copse in Holbury shortly before 1pm when a car pulled in alongside her and the driver wound down the window. The man driver then asked her where she was going and asked her to get into the car.
The girl didn’t reply and ran away. She was shaken but not hurt.
The car the man was driving is described as long and black with blacked out windows. The man spoke with what was described as a local accent but no further details about him or his appearance are known.
PC Jackie Conners, of Hythe police station, said: “Police are appealing for anybody who witnessed this incident or who has seen a vehicle matching this description in the area to come forward. If you have any information which could help us with our enquiries then please get in touch.”
She added: “We would also advise people, particularly young females, to be vigilant and to try and avoid walking alone. It is always better to walk in groups and to stick to main roads and busy places where other people will be around. If you see any suspicious behaviour then please report this to police immediately.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC Jackie Conners at Hythe police station on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where information can be left anonymously. Mini-Com users can call 01962 875000.
