The search for a man, who's gone missing from a cruise ship heading to Southampton, has been called off.

It's thought he fell overboard off the Isle of Wight, and he was reported missing on Tuesday morning (24 September).

A search was carried out to the south east of St Catherine’s involving the coastguard helicopter and a lifeboat, while other boats in the area were asked to help look for the man.

A statement by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said:

"The search for a man missing from a cruise liner heading into Southampton has now been stood down.

"Solent Coastguard received a call just before 6am today reporting the incident.

"The Coastguard search and rescue helicopters from Lee-on-Solent and Portland along with the Bembridge RNLI lifeboat and the Selsey RNLI lifeboat carried out a search off the Isle of Wight, south east of St Catherine's. Vessels in the area were also asked to keep a lookout, and a number of them also joined in with the search.

"Despite a thorough search, nothing was found. Rescue units have now been stood down."
