Man Left Blinded After Nightclub Attack

A man's been left blinded in one eye after a fight in a nightclub in Southampton city centre.

47-year-old Dean Defretas, who's from the city, was out with his family and workmates to celebrate Christmas when he was punched in the face by a man for no apparent reason.

It happened in the Cellar bar in West Marlands Road at around 3am on Saturday (December 15th).

The punch led to a larger brawl breaking out, which staff broke up and most of those involved left the building.

The blow caused a serious injury to his left eye, which needed surgery at the specialist Eye Unit at Southampton General Hospital. Doctors have told him he has permanently lost the sight in his eye.

Officers are releasing CCTV images of some people they would like to speak to who were in the bar around the time of the incident.
