Police are investigating the kidnap and robbery of a man in Gosport.

Officers say a 38-year-old man was put into a van in Forton Road at around 7.30pm on Saturday, October 19, 2013.

The victim was driven to an unknown location by a number of men.

He was robbed of £50 in cash, kept in a van overnight and then driven to the Cambridge Road area of Gosport at around 8.30am on Sunday, October 20, 2013.

The victim was taken out of the van and assaulted. He received medical attention in hospital for an injury to his face.

Investigating officer Detective Inspector Gary Towse said:

"The exact motive for the crime is not known at the moment, but all the information we have so far shows this was a targeted attack on this man. I'd like to reassure the community that there is no evidence to suggest a wider risk to the general public.

"We would like to hear from anyone who may have been in the area of Forton Road in Gosport between Russell Street and Ann's Hill Road at around 7.30pm to 8.15pm on Saturday, October 19 - or anybody who was in the Cambridge Road area of Gosport on Sunday, October 20 at around 8.30am to 9am.

"CID is seeking witnesses to suspicious activity, particularly anyone who noticed a van and several men."
